About AWF Events
In general, AWF events are held on the third Thursday of the month at one of our regular venues (one of our finance industry sponsors’ meeting rooms). On occasion, when a speaker is unable to speak on a Thursday, the day/date will be different and this will be clearly indicated on our website and in the flyer that we send out to our mailing list.
If you have never attended an AWF event, you may be wondering what the events are like and you may have several questions, so, below, is an AWF F.A.Q. of sorts:
What is the flow of an AWF event? What time should I arrive and when will the speaker start?
Unless otherwise indicated, the doors open at 7pm and the speakers usually begin at approximately 7:40. Between 7:00 and 7:45, there is a buffet of light snacks and beverages available and plenty of opportunity to network. Speakers usually speak for about 1 hour to 90 minutes. The format may vary according to the individual speaker, but most speakers will give a presentation and then take questions at the end.
Who attends AWF meetings?
The attendees vary quite a bit from meeting to meeting. Although we have a core of regular attendees, different speakers and panel events draw different people. In general, our attendees range in age from about 25 to 65, with the majority in their thirties and forties. A high proportion of attendess are women working in the financial industry in a variety of different roles and women and men from many other industries as well, who happen to be interested in the particular speaker.
Can men attend?
Although AWF membership is open exclusively to women working in finance, men are more than welcome to attend AWF events, so please feel free to bring your husband, partner, colleagues, or friends.
